A Gala Evening to Benefit the Center for Contemporary Opera
Dear Friends of the Center for Contemporary Opera,

You are cordially invited to attend a gala evening to benefit the Center for Contemporary Opera on March 15 beginning at 8pm at the National Arts Club.
The evening will include scenes from operas by Jake Haggie including Three Decembers, Again, Dead Man Walking, and Moby Dick. We are also very pleased to present scenes from William Mayer's award winning opera A Death in the Family. CCO will present A Death in the Family next September 14 and 15 at the Kaye Playhouse and then take the production to Hungary as part of the Armel Opera Festival.

As part of CCO's outreach program, we are proud to welcome the superb opera program from The University of North Texas College of Music under the direction of Paula Horner and Stephen Dubberly. They recently earned first place in the National Opera Association's opera competition in Division V  the highest division among conservatory and university programs  for its production of Marc Blitzstein's Regina. Our guest artists for the evening are Richard Croft and Stephen Morscheck.

Richard Croft is internationally renowned for his performances with leading opera companies and orchestras around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, The Salzburg Festival, Opéra National de Paris, the Berlin Staatsoper, Opera Zurich, Glyndebourne Festival, The Cleveland Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, and The New York Philharmonic. You may have seen his critically acclaimed performance as M. K. Gandhi in the Metropolitan Opera's production of Philip Glass's Satygraha, which was also broadcast live to movie theatres around the world.

Bass-baritone Stephen Morscheck is widely respected for the dignity he brings in concert and opera performances. "Stephen Morscheck's Leporello was genuinely funny, as well as solidly sung. His catalogue aria was almost too effective, drawing applause before its conclusion," says Opera News of a recent Don Giovanni performance. This season, he performs Bartolo at  Lyric Opera Baltimore, Capulet with the Florida Grand Opera, and continuing as a leading concert artist, performances including Jesus in Bach's Saint Matthew's Passion with the Netherlands Radio Kammerphilharmonie,.

The always erudute Elliott Forrest (WQXR, Live from Lincoln Center, Breakfast with the Arts, etc.) returns as our Master of Ceremonies. He promises a very entertaining evening, indeed!

The evening will begin with drinks at 8pm and the program will begin at approximately 8:15. A lovely reception will follow.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is a often told story that three years ago, I inherited CCO with only $7,000 in our account. Yet, at the same time when other companies have cut back or even folded, we are doing more than ever. Our visibility and activities have increased dramatically but we are not where we need to be by any means. Your support is vital and very much appreciated. Every dollar counts and not a penny will be wasted.

Donations at the Donor: $250, Patron: $500, Benefactor: $1,000 or Angel, $2,500 levels may be made by calling the company's office at 646-481-8110 or by email at js@conopera.org. Multiple tickets will gladly be offered for donations at these levels. Your ticket/donation is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

I look forward to seeing you on the 15th!

Best wishes,

Jim Schaeffer
