A Far Cry turns to Vienna, a city with a long and bitterly contested musical lineage, for its final concert of the season. Johann Heinrich Schmelzer's epigrammatic "Fechtschule" or "Fencing School" (a ballet complete with a gentleman's duel) does battle with the next-generation, Mozart's gracious Piano Concerto no. 13 in C Major. Alban Berg's virtuosic and secretive "Lyric Suite" embodies 20th century angst and passion, while Arnold Schoenberg's "Suite for String Orchestra" reaches back to monuments of the musical past and re-imagines them on its own terms.
