2007 CounterCorp Anti-Corporate Film Festival Fri-Sat Pass
The 2007 CounterCorp Festival returns to the Victoria Theatre this year with a full program of films and post-film Q&As. The Fri-Sat Pass gets you into all of the screenings on Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20 (in alphabetical order):

Short Doc 1: "Citizen Film: Putting the 'Me' in Media" -- Four short documentaries made by reluctant citizen activists and journalists who find themselves confronting the effects of corporate power and impunity.

THE METHOD ("El Metodo") -- It's a dog-eat-dog struggle in a large Spanish multinational corporation, where seven candidates for a senior position are competing against each other in a grueling Survivor-like interview process. The catch is that the "interviewer" is secretly one of the candidates, and the "interview" is the competition itself! One by one they're eliminated in a grueling process that tests their limits.

Written by Mateo Gil (Vanilla Sky, The Sea Inside) and directed by Marcelo Pineyro. In Spanish with English subtitles. (Spain, 115 minutes, 2007). ONE SHOW ONLY: Friday, October 19 at 9:00 p.m.

Short Docs 2: "No Boss, No Loss" -- Three short films on the history and practical, day-to-day aspects of running a workers collective, as an alternative to the corporate model. Followed by Q&A with a representative from the Network of Bay Area Workers Collectives (NoBAWC).

OVERDRAWN! -- California Premiere! In the tradition of Supersize Me and Sicko comes this chronicle of one man's valiant struggle against the predatory practices of the modern U.S. banking industry. Can citizen David ever hope to defeat Goliath, Inc.?

Directed by and starring Karney Hatch (77 minutes, 2007) ONE SHOW ONLY: Saturday, October 20

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND -- SF premiere! A startling, often hilarious exploration of the corporate takeover of American life. Over the course of three years, the filmmakers traveled across the U.S. interviewing award-winning authors, historians, media pundits, and ordinary citizens about the impact of corporate power on nearly every aspect of peoples daily lives, our social fabric, and the principles of democracy. The film celebrates small acts of resistance by everyday citizens in unique, funny, and inspiring ways.

Directed by Lori Cheatle and Daisy Wright (82 minutes, 2006). ONE SHOW ONLY: Saturday, October 20, at 9:00 p.m.

WE FEED THE WORLD -- Traces the flow of food and cash in the modern, industrialized food system, from farmers and fishermen to agronomists and corporate executives. Shows the scarcity amid excess in unforgettable imagery. "The absurdities of a globalized food industry ... illustrated with jaw-dropping efficacy ..." -- Sofia International Film Festival

Directed by Erwin Wagenhofer. In German, Portugese, and French with English subtitles. (Austria, 96 minutes, 2007) ONE SHOW ONLY: Friday, Oct. 19
