Nestled in the artsy and gritty neighborhood of the Italian Market in South Philadelphia, you can find a band of 5 guys practicing harmonies, booking shows for the community, and getting fans up and dancing with their unique blend of harmony-laden, groove inspired rock and soul.
The Discount Heroes are poised to bring their South Philly sound to mainstream ears. After signing a production deal with Sine Entertainment Group (127 S. 22nd St, Philadelphia, PA) band members, Frankie Tartaglia (vocals), Rob Ogus (guitar/harmonies) and Ron Bauman (guitar/harmonies) brought a collection of carefully crafted material to the recording studio. With the support of bassist Angelo Tartaglio and drummer Joe Blakely, The Discount Heroes went into the studio and recorded their first full-length release titled "Rock It! Science". A line-up of additional artists leant their talents to the record including drummer Fred Berman (Amos Lee), cellist Michael Rondstadt (Rondstadt Generations), and banjo-extraordinaire Josh Hisle helped capture the true essence of the music.
This album offers a diverse collection of songs ranging from the "Weezery" pop hit "Imaginary Girlfriend" to the funky cut "From It" (featuring Jeanie Brooks), from the bellowing soul of "The Last Goodbye" to the fun sarcastic nature of "Let it Play". "Rock It! Science" is a fun and sentimental collection of songs that will have the listener tapping and singing along. Frankie's voice is reminiscent of the golden age of South Philadelphia vocalists and is all encompassing, catchy and infectious.
Fresh off a California tour where they were invited by the Upright Citizens Brigade to perform at their theatre in Los Angeles, the Discount Heroes are ready to heal souls and make the world a better place through music.
The Discount Heroes have been featured on Comcast On-Demand and in Philly Weekly and have performed at venues across the states such as The UCB Lounge (CA), The Cat Club on Sunset (CA), World Café Live (PA), The Legendary Dobbs (PA), Connie's Ric Rac (PA), The Fire (PA), North Star (PA), The Blockley (PA), Club Rehab (NY), Piano's (NY), Mojo 13 (DE), MoDaddy's (NC), Elliot's Revue (NC)
