Songs for a New World
Jason Robert Brown was likened to be the "Sondheim for a new generation" by more than one review, and Songs for a New World was his first ever produced. It was borne out various cabaret songs he wrote when he was playing the piano bars in NYC. He was approached by Daisy Prince (famed Broadway producer Hal Prince's daughter) to compile his best songs into a revue, which ultimately became this show. Staged and presented in a revue format, all of the songs performed are truly unique to this show. (This style of writing, now used by numerous burgeoning new composers, has since been called "song-cycle.")
