Russian Masters 2: Prokofiev's Visions Fugitives
This a remount of one of our favorite concerts, 10 years later nearly to the day. Graham and Peter first over bonded early 20th Russian composers, from Prokofiev to Stravinsky to Shostakovich. Prokofiev's Visions Fugitives are a set of miniatures that run through the composer's early ideas and styles, covering an incredible range from driving rhythms to breathtaking harmonic shifts to surprisingly catchy melodies. They sound as fresh as ever 100 years later and easily open up to interpretation. Dr. Jeff Helmer will kick off the night by playing through the entire original set, then an ensemble of seven fantastic players rock out on Graham and Peter's arrangements.
