The Power Of Two : Special Sonoma Screening
The main event will be an exclusive screening of The Power Of Two, directed by Academy Award-nominated producer Marc Smolowitz, The Power Of Two is the inspirational tale of Anabel (Ana) Stenzel and Isabel (Isa) Stenzel Byrnes, biracial twin sisters who were born with Cystic Fibrosis. They were gifted with "gaman" -- the Japanese word for perseverance-- which has helped them survive miraculous double lung transplants. From being escorted in wheelchairs to diving into swimming pools, the twins celebrate their transformation from illness to wellness made possible by their organ donors.
Exuding unfiltered joy and drive, Ana and Isa are called to action by their gifts of health, and strive to help others in need of organ transplants and those suffering from CF -- focusing, in part, on those in Japan, their mother's native country. Ana explains, "When you receive a gift as amazing as a transplant, there's some sense of obligation to give back." Silmilarly, Isa says, "It's not fair the because we were born in America, we had a chance to receive a transplant. It's not fair that if we were born in Japan we would've died of this disease." Together with prominent experts in the field, the twins provide voices to patients by showing how suffering and storytelling gives rise to social change. "The power of advocacy is that it can start with one person," say U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health Dr. Howard Koh. "In this case, two people."
