We will learn about the broader movement to protect Mexico's biocultural patrimony, and the work unfolding within civil society, in Mexico's courts, and the emblematic importance of protecting corn in Mexico.
We will be joined by Adelita San Vicente Tello, Executive Director of Semillas de Vida who will brief us on Mexico's rich agricultural diversity, the importance of corn, current seed preservation activities amongst farming communities, and ongoing movements to protect the center of origin of corn.
We will also be joined by René Sánchez Galindo, the lead attorney working on the major class action lawsuit in Mexico to protect corn. This case asserts Mexico's signatory obligations to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety as taking precedence over that of Mexico's obligations to NAFTA and asserts the need for Mexico to protect its biocultural patrimony.
Finally, Katherine Zavala,IDEX Regional Director, Latin America will share some of their partners' stories on the broader social movement organizing throughout Mexico and across the world.
This event will be co-hosted by IDEX and Swift Foundation.
