Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble performs "All Angels Cry Aloud"
"Opus 7, one of the most esteemed musical groups anywhere" - Richard Campbell, The Gathering Note, December 2009
The lyrical beauty and power of this major work reveal the genius of the young Mendelssohn as Opus 7 celebrates its season opener with his magnificent Te Deum for double choir, soloists and organ continuo. Guests for this masterwork are St. James Cathedral Soloists Lisa Pontén, soprano and Kathryn Weld, mezzo-soprano; New York's Gabriel Gargari, tenor and Northwest gem Charles Robert Stephens, baritone/bass; and instrumentalists Meg Brennand, cello, Steve Schermer, double-bass, and St. James Cathedral Associate Organist Dr. Clint Kraus. Opus 7 also begins its 20th-Anniversary Season celebration with works commissioned by Opus 7 - David Griffiths Te Deum and Gwyneth Walker's God's Grandeur, both written for Opus 7's Tenth-Anniversary Season; as well as Benjamin Britten's Festival Te Deum, for choir and organ; and Ring Out, Wild Bells for double chorus and piano by Jonathan Dove.
Opus 7 was formed by Loren Ponten in 1992 and features some of the Northwest's finest choral artists. The group is known for its glorious sound, ardent musicality, and innovative programming of late 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century choral repertoire.
