Vagabond Opera and Orkestar Zirkonium at Columbia City Theater
1920's European Cabaret! Balkan Wedding Music! Vintage Americana! Opera, Modern and Old World! Yiddish Theater! Welcome to the six-piece, Portland, OR-based Vagabond Opera. The ensemble will once again bring their highly theatrical mix of eclectic music to the stage with Balkan brass band, Orkestar Zirconium.
About Vagabond Opera
Based in the Pacific Northwest, yet encompassing the world, Vagabond Opera delivers passionate offerings of Bohemian cabaret. Paris hot Jazz, Yiddish Theater, Tangos, Ukrainian folk-punk ballads, and vigorous originals invoke a world of Riverboat gambling Queens, Turkish Belly dance, and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. Weaving elements of Kurt Weil, Duke Ellington and Edith Piaf with absurdist flair, theatrics and an old world mood, Vagabond Opera presents the new wave of opera--lusty (trained) voices singing in 11 languages, with accordion, saxophones, bass, percussion, dance, and costumes, all played with exuberance, skill and a gritty Vagabond edge. This is Opera liberated and reinvented for the rest of us.
Vagabond Opera has been featured in Jazziz Magazine, shared stages and players with The Decemberists, Pink Martini, Al Franken and the Oregon Symphony, and has two full length albums, available at their website www.vagabondopera.com.

About Orkestar Zirkonium
Orkestar Zirkonium is a Seattle based Balkan-inspired mobile brass-and-drum band cast through an American lens. Their repertoire includes songs on loan from Eastern Europe's phenomenal brass band tradition, Bollywood, Middle Eastern, and klezmer traditions as well as a number of original compositions. The instrumentation includes bass drum, snare, dumbek, and percussion instruments such as cymbals, tambourine, and qarqabats, as well as trumpets, trombone, tuba, Harmonium saxophones and Clarinet. www.orkestarzirkonium.com
