Hadi Karimi Asil & Ahmad Yousefbeigi
Empty Sea Studios Seattle, WA
Hadi Karimi Asil and Ahmad Yousefbeigi, both native Iranians, met at a musical gathering in Seattle in 2010. After playing together for several minutes- Hadi on Tar (a Persian fretted string instrument) and Ahmad on Tonbak (a carved goblet drum) they realized their approach to music was very similar. Their musical storytelling is completely improvised, engaging and conversational; it depends on the moment and no two performances are identical. Their first improvised performance at the 2011 Northwest Folklife Festival received a standing ovation.
