SMUHSD ParenTeen Speaker Series presents Denise Clark Pope, PhD
The title of Dr. Pope's talk is THE WELL-BALANCED STUDENT: Encouraging Learning while Managing Stress

We all want our children to be healthy, happy and fulfilled.  In her presentation, Dr. Pope will discuss strategies to help balance our approach to homework, grades and the culture of competition.  This thought-provoking program is a must for parents seeking a healthy balance between academic achievement and personal fulfillment for their children.

In this presentation you will learn:
(1) How the increasing demands of today impact your student
(2) The different ways students cope with the pressures of today's academics and competition
(3) Ways to reduce academic stress without compromising achievement or engagement in school

Denise Pope, PhD is a Senior Lecturer at the Stanford University School of Education. She is co-founder of Challenge Success, a research and intervention project that aims to reduce unhealthy pressure on youth and champions a broader vision of youth success. Dr. Pope lectures nationally on parenting techniques and strategies to increase student health, engagement with learning, and integrity.

Dr. Pope is author of "Doing School: How We Are Creating a Generation of Stressed Out, Materialistic, and Miseducated Students" and was featured prominently in the film, "The Race to Nowhere."
