Kirkland Choral Society - Mozart Requiem with Bach Cantata 106 and Brahms Nänie
One of the most enigmatic pieces of music ever composed, surrounded by myth and controversy, Mozart's powerful Requiem has stood for 220 years as a testament to his genius and the deeply expressive nature of his music. Cantata 106, Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit (God's time is the very best time), one of J.S. Bach's earliest cantatas, is a beautiful and contemplative funeral ode with text from the Bible and from old church songs by martin Luther and Adam Reusner. Nänie, or "Song of mourning," is a richly textured piece that paints remembrance as a healing force and comfort, with text by the famous German writer Friedrich Schiller brilliantly set to music by Johannes Brahms.
