The Dreadnutts in Concert
LAVA Music presents The Dreadnutts in the beautiful Abounding Grace Sanctuary

Be forewarned! The Dreadnutts have guitars and they are not afraid to use them. They also have solid three-part harmonies, a bass and mandolin, and a repertoire that runs the gamut from John Fogerty to the Everly Brothers. Winners of the Telluride Bluegrass Band contest in 1991 and reunited for the first time in almost two decades, the Dreadnutts are once again riding the wide open acoustic spaces of the desert Southwest.

The five members of the group are no strangers to the western musical landscape. Bob Meighan, Peter McLaughlin, Earl Edmonson, Kirby Mittelmeier, and Brian Davies have all performed with various rock, bluegrass, and country bands over the years. And they've won guitar-slinging awards: Earl is a Telluride fingerpicking champion, and Peter has won numerous flatpicking contests, including the 1988 National Flatpicking Competition held in Winfield, Kansas.

Bob Meighan is a Capitol Records recording artist with soaring vocal abilities. Whenever I mention him to people, I frequently hear "He's wonderfulI used to go hear him at the Pawnbroker!" If you remember The Pawnbroker, please write and tell me about it! Bob has been a popular Phoenix-based singer/songwriter for many years.

Peter McLaughlin, a National Flatpicking Champion, comes from a traditional bluegrass background and was influenced by Doc Watson. I remember him from the band Flying South during my college days in Flagstaff. Since then, he has toured with Laurie Lewis and others. Peter always ensures a good time!

Earl Edmonson was gifted with a golden voice and exceptional musical ear. He plays several instruments and can play anything from singer songwriter ballads and traditional Irish music, to Western Swing as he does with one of Tucson's longest running bands, the Titan Valley Warheads.

Dr. Brian Davies and Kirby Mittelmeier are also members of Crystal Ridge Bluegrass Band. Kirby plays the mandolin like it is his third arm, and he is known for the fun and inspiration he brings to any band. Brian worked as a Hollywood side musician, playing guitar and electric bass during the Punk/New Wave/Metal era when MTV was getting its start. He moved to Tucson in 1989 where he has played bass and guitar with bluegrass, zydeco, rock, and folk musicians. Need a good dentist? He does that, too!

Now these five world class musicians are simply looking to play the music they love, the music that brought them together and helped shape their lives. Just don't expect the Dreadnutts to check their Martins at the door....
