Sonnets of Beauty and Music: the Volti Choral Institute Concert
First Unitarian Universalist Center San Francisco, CA
Volti, San Francisco's premiere contemporary-music vocal ensemble, hosts a concert featuring the top-notch high school choirs who participate in our education outreach program, the Choral Institute. Joining Volti's professional singers are choirs from Acalanes High School, Head-Royce School, Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts, and Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir. Volti will premiere a new work by Stacy Garrop, "Songs of Lowly Life," setting poetry of Paul Laurence Dunbar, one of the first African-American writers to gain national and international prominence. Each high school choir will sing a brief set of its own, and all choirs will combine to perform Stacy Garrop's "Sonnets of Beauty and Music," along with Francisco Guerrero's multi-choir piece "Duo seraphim clamabant."
