The Seattle Choral Company is proud to collaborate with Dr. Joanne Snow-Smith in an inspiring concert of Baroque choral works simultaneously presented with a slide showing of paintings from the Italian Renaissance. Dr. Snow-Smith will begin the concert with an informative lecture about her choices, matching music and sacred texts with visual depictions by Renaissance masters.
EXPLORE the sacred art of the Renaissance, guided by art historian, Dr. Joanne Snow-Smith, noted University of Washington professor of Italian Renaissance art history.
EXPERIENCE Lenten devotion and transcendence as art and music join together.
DISCOVER "Son et Lumiere." Literally it means "sound and light" in French. It refers to an illuminated show with a concert. The concert is the "son" (sound), and the visual show is the "lumiere." The art form started in France over fifty years ago during cathedral concerts with shows of light projections on the walls and ceilings of the great cathedrals of France.
