Orchestra Seattle / Seattle Chamber Singers 2011-2012 Season
OSSCS has assembled a roster of distinguished conductors to present seven varied programs of choral and orchestral masterpieces. Hoquiam native Jayce Ogren, former assistant conductor of the Cleveland Orchestra, opens the season with three deeply moving choral works of Johannes Brahms, plus Jean Sibelius' dramatic second symphony. Joseph Pollard White conducts a program spotlighting two works composed during the 1920s but based on music from centuries past: Ralph Vaughan Williams' Mass in G Minor and Igor Stravinsky's Pulcinella Suite. Hans-Jürgen Schnoor travels from Lübeck, Germany, to lead Bach's beloved Christmas Oratorio, while Seattle Symphony assistant conductor Eric Garcia will be on the podium for a Meany Hall concert featuring four Russian favorites. Alastair Willis returns for a program of British masterpieces, including William Walton's dazzling oratorio, Belshazzar's Feast, and Darko Butorac leads Bach's Easter Oratorio as well as Richard Strauss' mesmerizing music from the opera Der Rosenkavalier. The season concludes with Jonathan Pasternack, music director of the UW Symphony and Opera, conducting Anton Bruckner's awe-inspiring hymn of praise, his Te Deum, as well as Beethoven's epic "Eroica" Symphony. Season tickets ordered through Brown Paper Tickets will be mailed to you by Orchestra Seattle.
