She Writes - One Act Plays by Women Playwrights
The Secret Rose Theatre announces its presentation of "She Writes One-Acts by Women Playwrights" running September 9 to September 18. This production includes six one-act plays by six women writers.
THREAD COUNT Written by Deanna Alisa Ableser: A husband and wife's normal evening routine falls apartthreatening the stability of their marriage--when she reveals that she is writing her eulogy and needs his help. Directed by Dana Schwartz.
Deanna Ableser is a theatre teacher at Dana Middle School in Hawthorne, California. Deanna was the recipient of the 2006 VSA Playwright Discovery Teacher Award and was honored at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Brooklyn Publishers and youthplays.com currently publish her plays.
JOURNALIST OF THE YEAR Written by Kitty Felde: Three LA journalists, one golden statue: does sleeping with a city official really hurt your career? Directed by C. Raul Espinoza.
By day, Kitty Felde covers Capitol Hill for public radio station KPCC; by night, she's an award winning playwright. Her most recent production of " Alice: An Evening with the Tart-Tongued Daughter of Theodore Roosevelt" was "Critics Pick" of The Washington Post.
BLIND DATE Written by Tanis Galik: In this comedy we eavesdrop in on Dr. Stanley and Alice Adler as they prepare for what may be one of the scariest things in the world: a blind date. Directed by Kirk Arnold Smith.
Tanis Galik is a member of the Dramatist Guild and the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights (ALAP). She is also a crochet designer and had "Interlocking Croche" published by F+W Media Publications last year.
SCUFFY THE CAT Written by Kres Mersky: A comedy about a woman seeing her pet cat from a new perspective. Directed by Paul Gersten.
Kres Mersky is an actress and playwright. She has performed widely in film, television and theatre. Her full length and short plays have been produced in Los Angeles, Canada and New York.
S.O.U.Ls, Inc. Written and directed by Jan O'Connor: In this dark comedy, four new souls receive instructions that they can choose the life they will live on earth by acting out sample scripts. However, the choices are limited.
Jan O'Connor's plays have been produced around the country as well as in LA. "The Girl Who Would Be King" debuted at the El Centro Theatre last year and "Cleo's Girls" at the Lex Theatre.
THE REASON WHY I LIE Written by Chelsea Sutton: While waiting for their train, Stew watches a Flintstones marathon and Sage retreats into her daydreams, where her hopes, fears and a certain secret desire roam free. Directed by Jon Cortez.
Chelsea Sutton is a playwright, fiction writer, director and member of the Eclectic Company Theatre. Her plays have been seen in Santa Barbara, New York and Los Angeles.
"She Writes One Acts by Women Playwrights" runs for two weeks only opening on September 9 and running through September 18, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 PM, Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM.
