Ear Heart Music Presents: Hutchins East
Hutchins Consort East is a new ensemble, based in New York City, dedicated to playing the New Violin Family instruments made by Carleen Hutchins. The group is committed to commissioning new works written specifically for the New Violin Family instruments. The group will also focus on performing works of the Renaissance and Baroque to which the instruments bring an unparalleled clarity and balance. The ensemble brings together a group of accomplished and adventurous performers with experience performing modern and early music. Last spring Hutchins Consort East hosted a composers workshop in which the ensemble and composers worked on ideas and drafts for new compositions. This concert will feature the results of that workshop with new pieces by New York composers Michael Harrison, Sam Withrow, John Forshee, and Hannah Lash. In addition, the group will continue to explore the violin octet in the performance of early music by performing Palestrina's Missa Galileai.

"Flutist Amelia Lukas' innovative Ear Heart Music series at the Tank has become a staple in the New York new-music soundscape." - Time Out NY
Called "scintillating" and "truly original" by Time Out NY, Ear Heart Music is where New Yorkers can get their aural fix. Featuring some of the city's most cutting edge performers, composers and programming, this is a modern chamber music series presented to an intimate crowd. Our audiences are engaged not simply entertained by the music they hear. We nurture our listeners by presenting repertoire that is challenging yet relevant, and by providing context for our work. Most often shows incorporate multi-media elements, electronic processing, performance art, film or dance.
