This story of Chipollino takes place in the little town of Lemonia where flowers, vegetables and fruits happily live together sharing the sunlight, the rain, and the air. Unfortunately, they also share their lives under the rule of a tyrant known as Prince Lemon. Through music and dance, "Chipollino" not only tells the story of a classic fairy tale, but shares a much more profound statement about community and compassion under difficult circumstances.

The dancers of the International Ballet Theatre really love turning themselves into vegetables and fruits and flowers for this production. Although Chipollino is a story that was created for young people IBT's live performance, under the direction of chorographer Vera Altunina, is filled with the authentic choreography of classical ballet. The rhythms of dance, the heartfelt sincerity and humor of the characters and the exceptional cast of dancers will keep everyone spellbound.

Chipollino is live theater the entire family can enjoy!

Based on Gianni Rodan's Adventures of Cipollino
Chorography Vera Altunina | Music by Karen Khachaturyan

Chipollino is a smart and clever onion boy and the hero of a fairytale in which all the characters are fruits and vegetables: godfather Pumpkin, shoemaker Grape, lawyer Pea, little girl Radish and boy Cherry, music professor Pear and old Cipolla -- also an onion -- with his many onion children.

IBT's "Chipollino" is based on Gianni Rodan's Adventures of Cipollino, a children's tale published at a time when europe was faced with political oppression.  Cipollino, or Little Onion, fights the unjust treatment of his fellow vegetable townfolk by the fruit royalty (Prince Lemon and the overly proud Lord Tomato) in the Garden Kingdom. The main theme is the struggle of the underclass against the powerful, good versus evil, and the importance of friendship in the face of difficulties.
