Rusty's Hawaiian Tasting, Tour & Talk
Please join us at our Brooklyn Roastery for a Tour, Talk, and Tasting with Joan Obra and Rusty Obra of Rusty's Hawaiian.
Rusty's Hawaiian is the name of a farm in the Ka'u region of the Big Island that is changing a lot of people's notions of what Hawaiian coffee can be. Founded in 1999 by Rusty and Lorie Obra on a former sugar cane farm, they have created through hard work, experimentation and rigorous cupping a remarkable selection of fine coffees. In spite of Rusty's untimely passing in 2006, Lorie and other members of her family have kept improving the coffee, adding to Rusty's legacy. Rusty's Hawaiian is the 2011 and 2010 winner of the Hawaii Coffee Association's statewide cupping competition. The event will feature a talk given by the farmer, as well as a tasting of Rusty's Hawaiian chemex prepared coffees paired with a selection of house made pastries.
