Skating for the Stars

The Cherry Bomb Brawlers will be hosting a fundraising event to benefit the Wishing Star Foundation. This event will feature a full length roller derby bout (or game) at Pattison's North. Participants of the bout are volunteer skaters, refs and NSO's from the leagues in the surrounding area. Skaters will play in the spirit of representing a child who is unable to play due to health complications, or whose parents would like them to be represented in memoriam.

Players who usually skate under their derby names, (names used during play and chosen by skaters, usually indicative of personality or interests) would instead skate with the "derby-tized" version of the first name of a Wishing Star child. A list of the names and numbers of skaters are provided to the Wishing Star Foundation so the Wishing Children can choose the skater that will represent them in the bout. Players will be available to meet the child they represent and collaborate on a derby name.

Adult skaters will dress as a malady or disorder that the Wishing Children fight, and periodically interrupt game play. The skaters will then be tasked with defeating the ailment by fighting the adult off the track. Refs will also forgo their usual names for names representing necessary medications or treatments that protect the Wishing Star kids, like the reffing crew protects the skaters in roller derby.

Our co-ed players, aged 10-17, are excited to battle it out on the track, Thursday, October 29th at Pattison's North, to represent kids who battle everyday, and hope you'll join us in raising awareness and funds for the Wishing Star Foundation.

The Wishing Star Foundation fosters hope, community and lasting memories by granting wishes for children with life-threatening conditions. They work hard to grant wishes to children aged 3-21 years old with life-threatening illnesses. Their mission is to uplift and rejuvenate those that they serve and create lasting memories and support for those families.
