Benefit Yoga Class
Treat yourself to two hours of enlivening movement and deep relaxation while benefitting Green Sangha. The activities are fun, effective, and accessible to all. You may attend the 2-4 pm class, the 6-8 pm class, or both!
Green Sangha is a grassroots organization dedicated to healing our communities and the earth through mindful practice and awakened activism. Somatic practices such as Thomas Hanna's Cat Stretch, the Chinese facial massage, and Focused Breathing are ideal methods for awakening the inner activist and bringing light to every day.
The first class, Restoring Energy, will present five avenues for self-renewal, including touch, somatic movement, and conscious breathing. The second class, Opening Your Heart, will include related techniques, with a focus on exercises that have been found in the research to benefit cardiac health. We will conclude with a simple but profound meditation for cultivating compassion.
Workshop leader: Stuart Moody, M.A., is a certified Ananda Yoga instructor. He directed the Transcendental Meditation program at San Quentin State Prison in the 1980's, bringing yoga to hundreds of inmates and staff. Since 1995, he has taught Somatic Yoga to children, families, professionals, and retired persons. In 2014, he provided a seven-session Relaxation Training for teens in detention; participants showed a 19% reduction in anxiety and a 22% improvement in sleep quality after five weeks of practice. This spring, Stuart organized the Student Wellness Conference at the University of Arizona, sharing mindfulness practices that promote well-being and academic success.
