Bamboo Construction Intensive
This workshop will focus on the construction of bamboo trusses appropriate for a small building. We will use a steam box to heat and bend bend locally-harvested bamboo culms, and we will use different types of binding and bolting to secure the components of the truss. Students will also have the opportunity to construct an "independent study" small structural bamboo project to take home.
Each class day will be 9 - 5, with 45 minutes for lunch. Below is an outline for the course.
Thursday August 18. Introduction to the bamboo truss, binding and joinery styles, how to use a steam box.
Friday, August 19. Truss construction demonstration.
Saturday August 20. Truss assembly line. How to connect trusses together. Discussion of independent projects
Sunday, August 21. Finishing details and independent projects.
