Coming of age under the language censorship laws of the Franco regime in Spain, Maria defiantly sang in her native Catalan tongue. The fiery performer garnered fame and respect for her fight against censorship and has become a beloved symbol of Catalonian pride.
While her resistance to the censorship laws of the day gained her notoriety throughout Europe, it is her velvety, passionate vocals that have made Maria del Mar Bonet a worldwide legend in her own time. She is regarded as one of the finest vocalists in the world and has toured through Europe, South America, Russia, Japan and more recently to select cities in the United States.
Beginning with traditional songs from the Catalonian area of Spain, she has since mastered a range of seductive Mediterranean sounds from Mallorca to North Africa, Maghreb, Sardinia, Sicily, Italy and Greece.
Maria del Mar Bonet will headline an exclusive, first-time Seattle concert with special guests Luis Delgado, Dimitri Psonis, Javier Mas, Feliu Casull, Dani Espasa and Jordi Caspar at Town Hall at 8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 29.
