Shawano Folk Music Festival
In 2011 it will be 33 years that Shawano, Wisconsin and the northeast Wisconsin area have presented a folk music festival. The festival is held at the Mielke Arts Center in beautiful Mielke Park in Shawano, WI. There are two evening concerts, one Friday (Aug. 12) and one Saturday (Aug. 13) at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and seating starts at 6:30 p.m. Workshops, performances and crafts are presented from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday (Aug. 13) and Sunday (Aug. 14). Each hour will have four or five stages operating with a variety of music and dance for all ages. Sunday morning kicks off with a Gospel sing-a-long. The Sunday afternoon Dance workshops have become a favorite tradition. All weekend there will be programs that will get children singing and dancing with their parents and grandparents. Children 5 and under get in free during the day. Family passes for $30.00 are available at the gate. Inexpensive food and non-alcoholic beverages are sold by communtiy vendors. It is a friendly, family oriented event.
