Two heartbroken strangers, Kate and Lee, meet at a Halloween party, and quickly their conversation turns to the futility of relationships. A proposal is made: become a couple for exactly one year.
And so, a "perfect year" is set in motion with each step of the relationship planned out; first date, first kiss... and most importantly, a painless exit from each other's lives. But as the end of their year approaches, it becomes clear that disconnecting their hearts is far more complicated than just pulling a plug.
Shot and produced in San Francisco, The Annual tears apart the concept of a "relationship movie" to see what remains when the dust settles, and allows audience to be both voyeur and weary participant all at once. Is the perfect relationship ultimately an inescapable check list to which we all eventually succumb?
