Artists from the Metro Chamber Orchestra"
On Saturday night, May 14th 2011 at 7:30 PM, the Kosciuszko Foundation will present artists from the Metro Chamber Orchestra in a special benefit concert for the orchestra.
Featured on the concert will be MCO principal double bass player Pawel Knapik serving as both composer and soloist in his Concerto for Double Bass. MCO Concertmaster Una Tone will join assistant concertmaster Bruno Pena in works by Sarasate and principal flutist Jacquelyn Van Eck in music of Piazzolla. Violinist Agata Manka, the MCO's longest serving member will also be featured as a soloist. The soloists will be accompanied by the pianist Soyeon Park
Also in the program will be the Westbeth Capriccio for Double Bass solo, a piece dedicated to the Kosciuszko Foundation in recognition of their generous housing grant in the historic Westbeth Building.
Now in its eighth season, Metro Chamber Orchestra has developed into one of New York City's finest musical ensembles. Founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Philip Nuzzo, MCO is comprised of some of New York City's best freelance musicians, many of whom are guest artists of the New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and major Broadway musical productions. Audiences in New York and Boston alike have responded enthusiastically to the programming that combines custom arrangements for chamber orchestra with commissions of entirely new instrumental and vocal works.
The concert will be followed by a reception with an opportunity to meet the artists. Tickets are available at the Kosciuszko Foundation (212) 734-2130 or at www.BrownPaperTickets.com, 24/7 Ticket Hotline: 1-800-838-3006. |
