Locally Grown is a concert fundraiser that will benefit Food For Thought, a nonprofit, grassroots organization in Ojai that brings nutrition education, agricultural literacy and environmental awareness to the students of Ojai's public schools. The event will be held in Libbey Bowl, a delightful outdoor amphitheater, on August 25, 2007.
This year we will be headlining two lyrical local favorites who have risen to national acclaim: Perla Batalla and Brett Dennen.
Perla Batalla recently appeared in Leonard Cohen's critically acclaimed tribute film "Im Your Man". She has assembled a new band that brings a rich depth showcasing Batalla's powerful voice and soulful, Latin-tinged ballads. Brett Dennen is a young singer-songwriter who is gaining a wide audience on tour with John Mayer and Sheryl Crow. His pure and timeless vocals and joyous lyrics promise great things.
To add to the youthful and community spirit of this event, this year we will also feature the winners of the first Locally Grown Battle of the Bands. Band winners (all from Ojai or Ventura and aged between 13 and 20) Emy Reynolds, The Philosophy, Avant Garage and The Imaginative Clams will perform as openers. Several other 'delightful surprises' are planned for the show, including raffle drawings for an ADVENTURE package gift that includes a trail bike from Bicycles of Ojai and Patagonia bike gear, a GARDENING package of tools, perennials and fruit seedlings from Ace Hardware and Mountain Meadows Nursery, and a SPA package of therapeutic massage and health and beauty treats from Serenity Day Spa.
THIS IS A GREEN EVENT! We are doing all we can to minimize our carbon footprint. Please walk or ride your bike to the event and bring your reusable water bottles! Raffle tickets will be sold or awarded for individual efforts to make our event as green as possible. We will give you free water refills at our H2O station, and visit our the Zero Waste station, and the Solar Roller that will provide energy to our vendor booths.
Good healthy food will be available from Rainbow Bridge, Gourmet Tamales, and other food vendors. We will also have event organic t-shirts, caps, CDs, Kleen Kanteen, Chicobag (really cool reusable shopping bags!) for sale at the event with all proceeds benefiting Food For Thought.
Come and enjoy a wonderful evening of Locally Grown music and delightful surprises in the beautfiul, tree covered outdoor venue of Libbey Bowl in the heart of Ojai. Bring your friends and enjoy the show!
