SALT HORSE - Titan Arum
Seattle-based performance company Salt Horse premieres Titan Arum, a wildly opulent site-specific work for the newly restored, historic Washington Hall. Titan Arum is a new work about the mythic powers in the world both dormant and active, microscopic and immense, whose flux determines our ability to rise or fall. Fierce, sensual movement collides with lush, live acoustic sound. Disproportionately gigantic paper sets emerge and vanish. Living costumes bloom and fade. Salt Horse brings its signature surrealist lens to Washington Hall to warp and vivify perception.

Joining Salt Horse choreographers Beth Graczyk and Corrie Befort is a cast of distinctively powerful dancers: Alia Swersky, Allie Hankins, Jessica Jobaris and Shannon Stewart. Salt Horse composer Angelina Baldoz's music score showcases live performances by renowned musicians Stuart Dempster, Greg Campbell, Lori Goldston, Tari Nelson-Zagar and Jaison Scott. This work is lit by Salt Horse's own accomplished TD, ilvs Strauss.

Salt Horse offers this unique meeting of performers in a space rich with performance history to play with how the potential of any moment is dependent upon the synergy or collision of its parts.

As the audience enters Washington Hall they will weave through a gallery of new works by visual artist Margot Bird inspired by Titan Arum.

Salt Horse is currently supported by 4Culture Site Specific and Sustained Support programs, Historic Seattle, Washington State Arts Commission, the NEA, Velocity Dance Center, Project:Space Available and Meza Restaurant. Salt Horse is an associated program of Shunpike, a 501c3 non-profit art service organization.

Select Press from past work:

"This well-respected company has a reputation for the dreamy, the ethereal, even the spooky; meshing sound, image and movement to create a powerful multi-layered experience. Man on the Beach is indeed eliciting an excited buzz among Seattle's dance community. Everyone wants to see it; everyone wants you to see it. " Amy Mikel, Seattlest

"here in Seattle, the legacy of great achievers in movement poetry (33 Fainting Spells, Pat Graney, Robert Davidson) continues in strong health this month with the full-evening premiere of "Man on the Beach" by Salt Horse."   - Breathlesspace, Jean Lenihan's Writings on Dance and Other Movements

"The work leaves us in a state of dark disquietude that's also a state of grace the effect of having witnessed something so weird and beautiful."  Jonathan M. Stein, Philadelphia Broad Street Review

"Imagistic dance-theater works in which reality and fantasy collide and cooperate" - Rita Felciano, San Francisco Bay Guardian
