Raw Onion: Let Us Eat Cake!
The Best of RAW ONION: Let Us Eat Cake!

Favorite community voices from the opinion column of The Onion, America's Finest News Source come to life when 16 Philadelphia actors take the stage at L'Etage Cabaret for one night only on Sunday, April 3, 2011 to celebrate The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium's fifth season in Philadelphia. The Best of RAW ONION: Let Us Eat Cake! will have three shows at 6:00 pm, 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm.

The 60-minute show is a gathering of IRC veterans bringing to life our favorite voices from the opinion column of The Onion, the weekly satirical newspaper known for its outrageous and absurd humor. Performers/columnists scheduled to rant in RAW ONION: Let Us Eat Cake! include: Mark Knight as Paul Hale in Inconveniencing Others Makes Me Feel Alive; Liam Castellan as an exuberant sports fan in You Will Suffer Humiliation When The Sports Team From My Area Defeats The Sports Team From Your Area and Sharon Geller as Maggie Lehman, lamenting the state of adult films in Why Do Porn Actors Have To Use Such Foul Language? Also scheduled to perform in RAW ONION: Let Us Eat Cake! are Sonja Robson, John D'Alonzo, Kati Kertesz, Jesse Delaney, Ethan Lipkin, Jane Stojak, Bayard Walker, Jane Moore, Michael Dura, Kate Black-Regan, Michael Harrah, Bill Rayhill, Lee Pucklis and Kevin Murphy.

Proceeds from RAW ONION: Let Us Eat Cake! will benefit The Idiopathic Ridiculopathy Consortium's 2011 season, featuring Max Frisch's The Firebugs, to be presented at the Walnut Street Studio 5 in Philadelphia as part of The Philadelphia Live Arts and Fringe Festival, September 2  17, 2011.

Both a playwright and novelist, Max Frisch is considered one of the most influential Swiss writers of the 20th century. Frisch wrote The Firebugs after World War II, during which he served as a Swiss Army officer. Frisch was greatly influenced by Bertolt Brecht; his works often explore issues of class, identity, and man's alienation from society.

The Firebugs will be the IRC's fourteenth production since the company's formation in 2006. The IRC celebrated the 100th anniversary of Eugene Ionesco's birth in 2009 by staging well-received productions of his classic plays The Lesson and The Chairs, and has earned critical attention by tackling difficult and rarely-produced works by fellow absurdist authors Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter and Christopher Durang. The IRC recently completed critically-acclaimed productions of Jean Giraudoux's The Madwoman of Chaillot in September 2010 and The Empire Builders by French author Boris Vian in February 2011.

L'Étage Cabaret, the intimate 50-seat cabaret located above Beau Monde Creperie at 6th and Bainbridge Streets in Philadelphia will host RAW ONION: Let Us Eat Cake! The benefit show will have three performances on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 pm. Doors open 30 minutes before curtain. Tickets are $25.00. Seating is very limited and reservations are recommended by calling 215.285.0472 or purchasing tickets in advance on the IRC website at www.idiopathicridiculopathyconsortium.org.
