Jenny Whiteley Concert
Jenny Whiteley's Family Tradition

A Vernissage.  That's what Toronto/cum Lanark County/cum Toronto song writer Jenny Whiteley is calling the event.  "It is a preview of the art I am creating and about to release to the world.  It takes the form of a concert, but it will quite interactive, and very friendly.  A chance to talk to friends and fans about what is new and what is inspiring me, during and after the show."

The art Whiteley is referring to is her upcoming record which will feature music that she grew up with as a kid and has played all her life.  Jenny's dad and uncle were two thirds of the renowned Original Sloth Band throughout Jenny's childhood and she grew up at folk festivals and concert halls.  The Junior Jug Band was her family band as a child, featuring her dad, Chris, uncle, Ken and brother Dan.  Jenny then formed bluegrass band Heartbreak Hill with her brother in the 1990's.  Since then she has released four solo recordings, two of which won her Junos for Roots Traditional Recording of the year.

Whiteley's concept is inspired by the reaction of fans over the years to her live performances of many of the selections on this new recording.  "I play a lot of these songs live, and often get requests for the recording after the show.  Well now I can finally say, here it is!"

There are a handful of Whiteley originals in the record, too.  Inspires by an upcoming trip to France, Jenny has written a song in french.  There are also songs penned by Whiteley "in the style" of old time, bluegrass and jug band music included.

"This evening will also be the launch of my crowd sourcing campaign on Indie Gogo, where fans, friends and arts supporters will have a chance to be a part of this new project.  It's going to be a lot of fun with all kinds of great reward and perks for anyone who can and wants to be a part of the record and all that having a new project entails."

Jenny is in mid-recording at H. Chris Brown's Wolfe Island studio The Post Office (so named as it was the original post office on the island).  The project is being helmed by Sheesham and Lotus and Son's Sam Allison, a long time friend and colleague of Whiteley's.  "Sam lives this music, he sounds like the music I want to make on this recordhe understands the idea of an homage that is at once traditional and innovative at the same time."

The album will feature cameos by Jenny's dad and uncle Chris and Ken Whiteley, master of many old time instruments and pal Teillard Frost as well as other special guests.

Appearing at the Vernissage will be Jenny's husband crack guitar and mandolin player Joey Wright, the project's producer, Sam Allison, and some other special guests.
