March Flesh Hungry Dog Show
The Flesh Hungry Dog Show presents: Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra Detholz! And Brown Lazer
Friday, March 4, 9pm at Jackhammer 6406 N. Clark St, Chicago
On Friday, March 4, The Flesh Hungry Dog Show comes in like a lion with a hot new show full of fun, sexiness and of course, good old-fashioned rock and roll.
Bands include know-no-limits blues rockers the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra, lyrical post-post-modern punk rockers Brown Lazer, and Detholz! Hosted by Chicago rock impresario Gary Airedale, the show will also feature "Bag of Fun" prize giveaways from The Pleasure Chest and special guest performers Titty Perkins (burlesque cupcake), Sapna Kumar (hilarious stand-up comedian) and DJ Sky.
Band Bios Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra Native Chicagoans Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra are music scene veterans, their career as a "knows no limit' bluesy rock band spans 25 years. NTO started by sowing their oats on Island (U2, Melissa Etheridge) in the 80s to the present where they have performed and recorded with some of the brightest stars and legends in music, from Billy Corgan to Keith Richards to Mavis Staples. NTO has recently shared the stage with Los Lobos, The Neville Brothers, Phoenix, Superdrag, blues legend Hubert Sumlin, punk legend Richard Lloyd and long-time friends Alejandro Escovedo, Grammy winner Jim Lauderdale and Charlie Sexton.
Tremulis has channeled this musical jukebox into projects ranging from The Waltz, a star-studded 5-year concert series, award winning recordings and music scores for film, television and theatre. He's also co-host of WXRT'S Eclectic Company, Monday nights at 10p.
Detholz! There is a subterranean regiona murky swampland of unknown size and scope, crawling with crooked barkers, piggish gluttons, depressive religious fanatics, murderous cowboy crusaders, elderly fifth-stage alcoholics and defrocked addict-priests...to name a few. This baleful bayou from beyond is the setting for Detholz! newest and most bloody album to date, Death to the Traitor (scheduled for release in April 2011). A sister album to 2006's Cast Out Devils, which chronicles a loss of faith in the Lands of Party, Death to the Traitor traces one party-pilgrim's regression back to faith, a return journey fraught with unknown pitfalls and frightening characters along the way.
The current music of Detholz! supports the grand guignol imagery of Death to the Traitor, incorporating violent polyrhythms and a sparser, more direct approach to composition than on previous albums. Produced by Chicago impresario and Antichrist-in-Residence, Bobby Conn, Death to the Traitor is leaner, meaner and more focused than any previous Detholz! release. Death to the Traitor will be released in April 2011.
Brown Lazer Brown Lazer is a lyrical, post-post-modern punk band led by Marvin Astorga, a singer, songwriter and mixed media artist. They have performed twice at the Old Town School of Folk Music, first for the Folk&Roots festival, and then for Beatlefest 2010. Marvin recently had a gallery showing of his collage and mixed media work, entitled "This is Why We Can't Have Nice Things," at No Coast Exhibitions and Editions in Pilsen. Marvin's previous band was International Bread Company. Brown Lazer also features Scott Free on bass and Jenny Urban on drums.
