The Railway Club and Vancouver Folk Festival Present Perch Creek
The Railway Club and Vancouver Folk Festival Present Perch Creek, guest George
Doors: 8 pm, $10

Direct from Melbourne, Australia, Perch Creek are a band of five energetic multi-instrumentalists and vocalists, four of whom happen to be siblings. They play harmony driven roots music with a creative energy and fearless spirit that sparkles with imagination and individuality.  With diverse instrumentation including guitar, double bass, keyboard, trombone, saw, banjo and tap dancing, Perch Creek combine five-part vocal harmonies with folk, roots and rock musical styles all threaded together by the band's unique collaborative song writing.
Returning to Canadian soil for their second time round to celebrate the release of their new single "Mama Sings", Perch Creek will be making their way around the country, performing at Winnipeg Folk Festival, Vancouver Folk Festival, Hillside Summer Festival along with their own headline show at The Railway Club, Vancouver.
The first half of 2015 saw Perch Creek take some time away from their busy touring schedule to focus on writing, the fruit of which can now be savoured as the first sweet taste of their upcoming third album, the brand new single Mama Sings - set to be released on June 26th. The band's first official release under their recently shortened band name Perch Creek, Mama Sings showcases a revitalized sound to accompany the refreshed name.
With a ghostly, haunting chorus reminiscent of an old R'n'B sample, the track features lush electric guitar, modern production and a heavy back beat, juxtaposed against a gritty, rural lyric exploring the universal theme of struggle. In this context the unusual addition of the musical saw floats through this track like the ghost of someone you didn't know you missed.
Produced by Greg J Walker (Machine Translations, Paul Kelly, CW Stoneking) and recorded at his converted bakery studio in Jumbunna, Victoria, Mama Sings captures the open flavour of the Australian landscape and the restless South Gippsland wind.
Perch Creek  who have toured extensively across Australia, Europe, the UK and now Canada, consistently deliver unforgettable, high-energy shows - at moments haunting, but ultimately uplifting. Be sure to catch them as they tour this July.

"They perform with such infectious joy. The gig was pure showmanship."
