Eavesdropping: The Patient Observer
Join members of Guy Barash's Ensemble PROTEUS in an eclectic buffet of new music for marimba, clarinet, and voice. The highlight of this concert is the premiere performance of Canadian composer Carl Wiens "Patient observer," with texts by Leticia Kalweit.  This song cycle, in an arrangement especially for Erin Heisel, soprano and percussion, Kae Reed, marimba, and Christopher Bush, clarinet, explores the thoughts of a solitary female on a desolate landscape between hope and need.

The program also includes a rare performance of Gunther Schuller's playful and extremely virtuosic "Episodes for Solo Clarinet," and Andrew Beall's "Song of 'Almah," a group of love songs written as duets for marimba and soprano.  Finally, sound artist Guy Barash will join the program for the presentation of a new soundscape featuring live electronics.
