Amherst PTA Presents The Music Man
The Music Man is a classic American musical comedy written by Meredith Willson. Con-man Harold Hill, arrives in River City, Iowa posing as a boys' band organizer and leader to sell band instruments and uniforms to naive townsfolk before skipping town with the cash. Marian the librarian sees through him, but when Hill helps her younger brother Winthrop, Marian begins to fall in love with Harold. Harold, in turn falls for Marian and learns a lesson in moral responsibility in the process. In 1957, the show became a hit on Broadway, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The cast album won the first Grammy Award for "Best Original Cast Album". The show's success led to revivals and a popular 1962 film adaptation with a young Ron Howard as Winthrop. With an amazing local cast and hit songs like 76 Trombones, Goodnight my Someone, Gary Indiana, Till There Was You, and others, it's a show for the whole family!
The Music Man will be performed at Souhegan High School, 412 Boston Post Rd., Amherst, NH, April 14, 15 & 16 at 7pm, and April 16 & 17 at 2pm
