Following their sold-out concerts at Lincoln Center, the Library of Congress, and Sarasota's own Holley Hall, which the Sarasota Herald Tribune called "heartfelt and extraordinarily riveting" SYBARITE5, a string quintet dedicated to creating mold-breaking programming, returns to Sarasota presenting the Florida premiere of The Shuffle Effect. The ensemble's weeklong residency will also include the world premiere of a new Radiohead Remix, a daring performance of Francis Schwartz's Cannibal Caliban, and a  repeat of the sold out New Music Idol at the HuB.

Hosted by Joey Panek and Jay Hunsberger, SYBARITE5 partners with New College composition students to foster new works for string quintet. Aided by professor Bret Aarden, students study music composed for Sybarite5 and then create short competition pieces that are performed and critiqued in an American Idol style setting. The new compositions are performed live in a casual concert setting complete with a panel of judges and a winner is chosen via a live text to vote system. New Music Idol transforms classical music composition into something both relevant and exciting for audiences, composers and performers.

Recently performed for a sold out audience at Lincoln Center, The Shuffle Effect sets a new standard in audience experience. The traditional set program list is replaced with an iPod containing the group's repertoire. The program for the concert is determined live from the stage, as the players press shuffle on the iPod and play whatever piece shows up on the screen. Audiences must be prepared for anything - from Mozart to Radiohead. The Shuffle Effect allows the musicians to showcase their skill, innovation and vibrancy.

"SYBARITE5 is a New York based group of gifted young string musicians who have gained a reputation for juxtaposing the likes of Stravinsky with Radiohead, or Dvorák with Led Zeppelin. But that doesn't even begin to describe the range of their eclecticism or the depth of their repertoire." - Greg Cahill, Strings Magazine

Comprised of Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello; and Louis Levitt, bass, SYBARITE5 has taken audiences around the US by storm. From Radiohead to Mozart, this group of talented, diverse musicians has changed the perception of chamber music performance. From the moment that their bows hit the strings, the audience is taken on a wild ride that engages the senses and redefines the rules.
