Event
Winter: A Night of Voice, Piano, and Strings
Christopher Barnes (Gem Club), Mary Bichner (Box Five), Brian King (What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?), Sarah Rabdau (as Foolish Ida), and Mali Sastri (Jaggery) will sing songs and tell stories celebrating the post-holidays dark icy months. The songwriting vocalists/pianists will be joined by some of the Boston rock scene's best string players including viola player, Rachel Jayson (Army of Broken Toys, Amanda Palmer), cellist, Valerie Thompson (Goli), violinist, Nathan Cohen (What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?) and upright bassist, Mike Leggio (What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?, Army of Broken Toys.)
The performers will deliver original and classic songs, from the soulful to the whimsical, lauding the romance and drama of the frozen nights of Winter. The night will include Mali Sastri and Brian King in a searing duet of the Annie Lennox classic "Cold," as well as full ensemble re-stylings of Kate Bush's haunting "Under Ice" and Tori Amos' seminal "Winter." Performers will also share personal reflections about soldiering through a New England Winter, with at least one retelling of a classic Winter fairytale.
