Sno-King Community Chorale presents MUSICA DA CORO: "Gloria" by Karl Jenkins
Trinity Lutheran Church Lynnwood, WA
Fresh from its performance at Carnegie Hall, Sno-King Community Chorale presents the West Coast Premiere of "Gloria" by Karl Jenkins, recently named as the most performed composer in the world today, and who was awarded the Commander of the British Empire for his works. "Gloria" is high on drama, as evidenced by Jenkins' use of sounds from ethnic and Third World cultures, especially in the 3rd movement Psalm 150, with its pounding rhythms. Countering is a serene fourth movement,"I'll Make Music". The work's five movements are punctuated by readings in Sanskrit, Chinese and Arabic from the Bhagavad Gita, the Diamond Sutra, the Tao Te Ching, and the Qur'an, which Jenkins claims stand as a counterpoint to Abrahamic religions, and which remind us of a universal, shared spirituality.
