White Pine Festival: St. Petersburg String Quartet
The inaugural White Pine Festival opens with a concert by the Grammy-winning St. Petersburg String Quartet. Formed at the Lennigrad Conservatory, the St. Petersburg String Quartet is best known for its definitive interpretations of Russian string quartet masterworks. This concert will include a performance of Dmitri Shostakovich's optimistic sixth quartet. In 2006, the Grammy-nominated group commemmorated the 100th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth by touring Europe to perform 10 of his 15 quartets. This year they will release recordings of Tchaikovsky's complete chamber music works, and the quartets of Dvorak and Mendelssohn. Join us after the concert for a reception at the nearby Stillwater Public Library.
