Shakespeare's template for the modern romantic comedy hits all the right notes: witty repartee, verbal sparring with more than a hint of sexual attraction, mixed messages and crossed signals, and, of course, the happy ending. Claudio and Hero are soon to be married; Beatrice and Benedick insist they can't stand each other. What starts as a couple's prank on friends turns into heartache, innuendo, and a battle of the sexes, but a wise fool saves the day, turning tragedy into high comedy.
