Simply Unique - Avant Folk with Woody Sullender / Seamus Cater plus more
Entirely incomparable and absolutely gorgeous: Join Bowerbird in the intimate setting of the historic Powel House for a refreshing take on the folk, rock, and jazz genres featuring an elite line up of international performers: the banjo / harmonica duo of Woody Sullender and Seamus Cater (UK/Amsterdam); percussionist Seijiro Murayama (Japan/France); and the trombone / guitar duo of Philadelphians Dan Blacksberg and Nick Millevoi.
"The results of this duo are so phenomenally playful and full of depth and simple joy that it's hard not to love what they are doing. This is a refreshing take on the combination of folk and experimental musical modes and definitely deserves wider attention. " Woody Sullender (NYC) plays acoustic and electro-acoustic banjo while Seamus Cater (UK/Amsterdam) plays different kinds of harmonicas, usually re-tuned. It's two instruments with a lot of cultural baggage played by two musicians involved in experimental music where such cultural associations are not so common. This new / folk / minimal look into re-interpretations of instrumental and stylistic conventions sits in a place that at once embraces a post digital aesthetic whilst scanning back through 20th century music with instruments that haven't changed since the 1920's.
Seijiro Murayama is a Japanese percussionist currently living in Paris. Active since 1982, he is a founding member of seminal noise/rock band A.N.P. (with KK Null) and Fushitsusha (with Keiji Haino). Currently he plays solo (with only a snare drum), in duo with Jean-Luc Guionnet, Eric Cordier, Stéphane Bank, Tim Blechmann, Didier Lasserre, and quartet "Off-cells" with Taku Unami (guitar), Uta Kawasaki (analog synth), Takahiro Kawaguchi (objects).
