The Middle of the Middle is a withering reproach to modern love told through the eyes of the disaffected and self-possessed youth of the Hollywood scene. The characters that inhabit the film's urban landscape lend a mirror to the reality, where the pimps and the whores more likely own a Mercedes and a house in the Hills rather than the cliched images that they themselves peddle as truth. Emphasizing the urban blight of modern Los Angeles, the film finds a melancholy beauty in the innocence of youthful love that turns upon itself as all love eventually does.
