Immortal: The Gilgamesh Variations
IMMORTAL: THE GILGAMESH VARIATIONS is a brand new, contemporary look at the Epic of Gilgamesh, the legendary hero who may (or may not) have been an actual ruler in the 27th century BC. The earliest known work of human fiction has been moved to the stage by 11 acclaimed playwrights, who string together a surprising, heartbreaking look at what it means to be human...and an altogether different way to live forever.

"Gilgamesh has been written, and re-written, by thousands of people over the last 4,000 years," says director Gabriel Shanks. "ÂWe felt that its constant revision was as important as anything in the story itself.  So in our theatre piece, every ten minutes, IMMORTAL changes playwrights and with it, it changes perspective, character choices, subtext, style, and direction. It'Âs an incredibly exciting project to work on."

Gilgamesh'Âs quest to give his life meaning through conquest, love, adventure and legacy is unlike any writing in human history. It includes Gilgamesh's friend, the wild man Enkidu; the tempestuous and vengeful goddess Ishtar; Shamhat, the sultry high priestess; and Utnapishtim, the only human ever to discover the secret to immortality.

Directed by Gabriel Shanks (Fall of the House of Usher), IMMORTAL: THE GILGAMESH VARIATIONS features Obie winner Catherine Porter (It's Good Enough For Me), Eugene the Poogene (Cornbury), and eight other dynamic performers.
