PAIRINGS: Altieri, Evans, and Pluta
Masters of improvisation Jim Altieri, Peter Evans, and Sam Pluta join forces in a concert of duos, trios, and solos. Previewing their upcoming album of duos on Carrier Records, this trio will melt your skull in quadraphonic surround sound only available in the live experience. Jim Altieri and Sam Pluta, collaborators for over six years, will present their new work, Glympses of Nymphes. Peter Evans will dazzle the audience with a solo performance reminiscent of his album Nature/Culture. Five new works. 3! combinations. Infinite jest. Be there at 7.
PAIRINGS is a four-concert series of new music in November and December 2010. Each concert features a young composer and an established composer in a "pairing" chosen by the new music ensemble that will present them. Pairings is produced by Amp. www.pairingcomposers.org
Jim Altieri loves listening. Through his music and software, he tries to share this love with other listeners. His own music often uses the harmonies and rhythms of the harmonic series and explores the relationship between attention and awareness. Jim has two main bands with which he regularly performs Glissando bin Laden and his Musichideen and Tatters and Rags
Sam Pluta is a New York City-based composer and improviser working in the fields of acoustic and electronic music. He is technical director for the Wet Ink Ensembles and a founding member of the improvising quintet Glissando Bin Laden. In 2009 he won the ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer's Award.
