PAIRINGS: Mivos String Quartet
The Mivos String Quartet presents Wolfgang Rihm and Carl Bettendorf.
Wolfgang Rihm is arguably the most prolific and well-known living German composer.
German-born and now New York-based Carl Christian Bettendor is Rihm's former student.
PAIRINGS is a four-concert series of new music in November and December 2010. Each concert features a young composer (or composers) and an established composers in a pairing chosen by the new music ensemble that will present them. PAIRINGS is produced by Amp.
Wolfgang Rihm came of age in the late 70s as a member of the Neue Einfachheit (new simplicity) movement but has become a unique figure in the international new-music scene.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Carl Christian Bettendorf's works have been played at major new-music festivals and venues in Europe and North America alike. In July 1997, his first opera Escorial after Michel de Ghelderode was premiered at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. He is the recipient of a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Jonathan Kramer Prize of Columbia University.
Mivos String Quartet is presented as a part of the PAIRINGS concert series at The Tank.
