Six Cornucopa with Svengoolie
The sidewalks of Six Corners will overflow with fun on Oct. 9 with the fifth annual Six Cornucopia, a festival featuring a treasure hunt, sidewalk bazaar and a Svengoolie appearance at the Portage Theater.
Area businesses will also be offering promotional items and coupons to everyone who visits them on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those who visit enough stores can enter the drawing for a flat-screen TV.
By visiting local businesses, fest-goers can also win a ticket to the Svengoolie appearance and movie at the Portage, 4050 N. Milwaukee Ave. Svengoolie will arrive at 7 p.m. and sign autographs for about an hour. After the drawing for a flat-screen TV raffle, Svengoolie will introduce the 1931 classic "Dracula" starring Bela Lugosi.
Everyone who participates in the treasure hunt will receive a stamp ticket, which will be stamped by every business that participants visit. The more businesses visited, the more prizes fest-goers will win and come closer to entering the drawing for the grand prize.
After collecting six stamps, fest-goers can enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee or pastry at Family Bistro, 4929 W. Irving Park Road. At 14 stamps, they get a free pop and fries from Jeff's Red Hots, 3901 N. Cicero Ave. At 20 stamps, they get a free ticket for the Portage Theater's Svengoolie show. Tickets will also be available at the door for $10.
When they fill up their game piece with 25 stamps, fest-goers can enter the raffle to win the flat-screen TV.
Six Cornucopia is part of the revitalization of Six Corners. The Six Corners shopping district is in Chicago at the intersections of Irving Park Road, Cicero Avenue and Milwaukee Ave.
