"the dreamer examines his pillow," by John Patrick Shanley (writer of 'Moonstruck' and 'Doubt') opens with a young man, Tommy, talking to his refrigerator. He's in a sordid basement searching for his "self" when his ex-lover Donna shows up. She's determined to put an end to Tommy's affair with her 16-year-old sister. Eventually Donna turns to her estranged father for help, demanding that he force Tommy to repent or beat him up. The three characters grapple with the nature of love and passion, trying desperately to fix themselves and each other and take control of their fate.
