THE AVANT GARDEN PARTY
New Music Works' Annual End-of-Season Benefit Concert featuring Guest Artists: Kaweh, gypsy rumba, salsa band; Singing Wood Marimba Ensemble;Gamelan de Jardin with Dan Landry, tenor; UCSC Percussion Ensemble,directed by William Winant; Ariose Singers, conducted by Michael McGushin with Irene Herrmann, keyboard; Karla Raquel Avila, clarinet; Bill Walker, guitar. Come enjoy the refreshing flows of joyous music and savory gourmet concoctions amid breathtaking blooms and extraordinary company at this annual fundraiser in support of New Music Works. Singing Wood Marimba Ensemble, UCSC Percussion Ensemble and Ariose Singers are back to help celebrate the 30th annual benefit concert along with Kaweh, a high energy salsa band with players from around the world including five time grammy nominee David Belove on bass, Also performing are Gamelan de Jardin with Dan Landry, tenor and clarinetist Karla Raquel Avila and guitarist Bill Walker. Repertoire includes the late Lou Harrison's "Coyote Songs", Steve Reich's Pieces of Wood , Paul Bowles' Tornado Blues and Prayer for Peace, a world premiere by Bay Area composer Fred Adler. Kung-fu Style Tea Pouring will be offered again, this year by David Wright of Chaikhana Tea Culture, in a peaceful nook of the garden. Chef India "Joze" Jozseph Schultz will bring his celebrated exotic culinary flare to the day. Treat your sweet tooth to exquisite chocolate truffles from pastry chef Michelle Polzine of the popular SF restaurant Range. Cost of admission includes food, served throughout the day.
