Seattle Floating Homes Tour on Lake Union
The Floating Homes Association is presenting a self-guided walking tour of 12 unique floating homes on the east and west sides of Lake Union incorporating the theme "From Funky to Fabulous -- 100 Years of Houseboat Living". Each home has its own fascinating history, architectural style, decor, artwork, and inhabitants reflecting the spirit and evolution of the houseboat community. Participants will enjoy viewing a diverse array of innovative home designs that range from compact and whimsical to spacious and modern. The ticket is a brochure with home descriptions and a map so participants can choose which tour homes to visit and in what order. Comfortable, sturdy shoes are recommended as there are stairs, uneven docks and some unpaved road, etc. Participants will be required to either remove shoes or cover with slippers (provided) before entering homes. No food, drinks, strollers, or backpacks will be allowed in the homes. Ticket numbers are limited so advance purchase is advised. Remaining tickets, if any, will be sold on tour day starting at 11:30 am at the tour staging and "will call" area at the foot of East Newton & Fairview Ave East. The tour will be held rain or shine and all persons regardless of age, entering the homes must have a ticket. A free espresso drink and restroom facilities will be provided and also opportunites to purchase food and soft drinks along the way. There will be a fleet of small buses and electric boats to provide complimentary transportation from Fairview Ave East to Westlake Ave North and from one end of Fairview Ave East to the other for those who want it.
